MILLENNIUM SERVICES TEAMS WITH TETRATECH NUS

Millennium Services is supporting TetraTech NUS in the development of the radiological survey plan describing the survey, sampling and analysis requirements necessary to determine if specified buildings at the Alameda Naval Air Station can be unconditionally released, or if additional action is required.

MILLENNIUM Teams with Bartlett Services

Millennium Services teamed with Bartlett Services to provide services and equipment for the survey and remediation of residual contamination culminating in license termination for the Warren Hall Building.  Warren Hall was built in 1955 and housed the School of Public Health (SPH) until November 2007.  Use of radionuclides in Warren Hall was terminated in October 2007.  Radioactive materials were used as part of the research conducted for the SPH, and radioactive sources were used for instructional purposes.  Authorized use of radioactive materials was limited to the first and second floor laboratories.

Team members were trained in the operation of the SCM-IV and conducted radiological surveys for alpha and beta contamination on building surfaces.  Millennium provided staff to process and analyze the data and to produce CAD overlays of the imaged data.

MILLENNIUM acquires scm and sims from shonka research assoc., inc,

Woodstock, GA, September 20, 2007- Millennium Services, Inc. (MSI) proudly announces it has acquired the state-of-the-art Surface Contamination Monitor and associated Survey Information Management System (SCM/SIMS) technology from Shonka Research Associates, Inc. (SRA).  This patented survey technology was developed by Dr. Joseph Shonka, and has been used extensively by Millennium Services in support of numerous D&D projects and site investigations across the country including, Rocky Flats, Fernald, and the ETTP 3-Building Project (K-33, K-31, and K-29) in Oak Ridge.

“We have a great deal of experience with SCM/SIMS and are excited to assume ownership of this innovative and versatile technology,” said Millennium Services president Rick Titolo. The SCM/SIMS is widely recognized throughout the nuclear industry for its superior production rate while satisfying the Data Quality Objectives of characterization and final status surveys.   The cost effective system eliminates many of the errors associated with handheld surveys while providing a thirty five fold increase in production rate; and, the comprehensive survey documentation provided is unequalled in the industry.  Use of this technology has been shown to result in cost and schedule savings, while meeting or exceeding both site-specific and statutory performance criteria and minimizing the risk of future liability. "

"SRA is excited to have MSI assume the rights to the SCM.  MSI has had a long and successful association with the SCM, making them uniquely qualified to continue to advance the technology and promulgate it to the marketplace.  SRA is confident the SCM technology will continue to evolve under MSI’s stewardship, further enhancing its unmatched abilities and market presence,” said SRA president Debby Shonka.

MILLENNIUM CONTINUES WORK AT K-25

Millennium Services continues to provide support to RSI and Bechtel Jacobs at the ETTP site in Oak Ridge.  Our personnel are currently supporting inventory management, characterization and sampling activities in building K-25.   Previous support services have included radiological surveys of ground surfaces in and around the site for the purposes of site characterization.  Walkover surveys were performed using NaI detectors along with a Global Positioning System (GPS).  Our personnel also provided radiological screening of soil samples to identify sample locations with elevated quantities of radioactive contamination and to determine the specific depth of any contamination present.

Millennium Services assisted in the development of the Removal Action Report for buildings K-33, K-31 and K-29, and is involved with the reindustrialization effort for K-31 and K-33.  We provide technical and project management support to the development of integrated Data Quality Objectives for the D&D of K-25.  This effort included a targeted historical site assessment of radiological survey data (including NDA), the determination of additional data needs, and the evaluation of field measurements to support nuclear criticality incredibility determination at K-25.

MILLENNIUM ASSISTS TVA AT WATTS BAR

Millennium Services supported the plant by performing a SOER 2001-1, Unplanned Radiation Exposures, assessment of the Radiation Protection Program at TVA’s Watts Bar Nuclear Plant.  Millennium Services, Inc. provided station management with a “hands-on”, forward-looking, detail oriented assessment of the RP program relative to the recommendations found in the INPO SOER, and developed specific plans to improve performance where applicable.  The Site Vice President commended Millennium’s efforts, and all of the assessment recommendations were accepted.

MILLENNIUM ASSISTS FLUOR FERNALD IN COMPLETING PROJECT

Services included the design and performance of radiological surveys of concrete pads, walls, roadways, and land areas in support of D&D activities and for free release, as well as the identification of sampling locations for core bores. Sampling points were determined by identifying the locations with the highest levels of surface activity, and samples were obtained for analysis relative to EPA guidelines for onsite burial.  The services provided by Millennium Services included:

  • Development of procedures and Survey Work Packages (SWP) for each of the survey areas;

  • Project management and radiological engineering support;

  • Design and performance of characterization, remedial action support, and final status surveys using SCM/SIMS advanced survey technology;

  • Determination of sampling locations;

  • Survey data management;

  • Quality assurance review of final status survey data;

  • Development of survey reports for each survey area and Final Status Survey Reports summarizing the results;

  • Performance of gamma walkover surveys using NaI based GPS system.
